OS list
In the list of available OSes, it would be helpful to have a bit more information on the less well-known ones. Which major linux distro is Aurora based on? Neon, I seem to remember had something to do with KDE? Is it Debian based? That kind of information. Manjaro is Arch-based, as far as I can tell. As a Debian user, that means I pretty much have to relearn the simplest commands, which is okay!, but it's nice to know that going in. Quixote (talk) 20:43, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
- My 6p is this PinePhone (hardware) page should have nothing on software except the link to the software page! And yup, your suggestion to try describe a bit about each option is perfectly at home there.
- If we try maintain some kind of software list on both the hardware and software pages they are guaranteed to be out of sync at best, and contradictory at worst. IMHO --Dukla2000 (talk) 20:51, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
OS list removal
As the logo's do not work and the list is very incomplete and adds no extra info, I will remove the OSs list alltogether, and just link to PinePhone Software Releases. The proposal to do this already is from feb, and nobody opposed it. Abcde (talk) 20:49, 24 April 2020 (BST)
Hardware Bug
Megi has discovered an HDMI hotplug HW bug: https://xnux.eu/log/#045 I think I should add this, but I am unsure where. Since this covers all revisions, should I add a note on each page under known issues? --Sam (talk) 09:03, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
Reliable replacement batteries
The official PinePhone batteries seem to have been "out of stock" for at least a year or so. Please add comments about your experiences with replacement batteries. My general experience is that non-PinePhone batteries - with "Samsung" written on them - decharge and/or may cause modem disconnections. Please add URLs and/or hints based on experience here.
These comments assume that you have already read the official recommendation: Samsung part number EB-BJ700BBC / BBE / CBE from the 2015 J7 phone.
- June 2022: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=16851 - the Polarcell for Samsung Galaxy J7, may require removing the black plastic at the bottom as the battery is a tight fit
- Nov 2025: per chats on #PinePhone matrix channel:
- Clones of Samsung batteries are apparently unreliable (in contrast to original Samsung batteries)
- Heuristic selection: find an online battery with the least mis-spellings on the battery photo; found to be practical by one person
- The Da Da Xiong 'PERFECT BUSINESS BATTERY' EB-BJ700BBC For J7 GB/T18287-2013 was recommended by one person
Probably what we really need is a survey ... Boud (talk) 11:34, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
