I have been working at a BIPOC women-owned massage company for the past five years, ever since I moved here to the United States from Panama. It has a majority-Black work force and I am proud to be a part of this amazing team of strong and resilient women. I work as a massage therapist, and I specialize in Massage for Women. I take great joy in providing this service to my clients, knowing that I am helping them to relax and recharge. As a Latina immigrant, it has been a blessing to be able to learn from my colleagues and to be surrounded by so much love and support. At work, I have been surprised by how much power can come from women working together. In a recent incident, two of my colleagues had a disagreement about something. Instead of getting angry at each other, they each voiced their opinion and then put their heads together to come up with a solution. It was amazing to witness, and it reminded me of the lessons my grandmother and aunt taught me as a child: that when women come together, amazing things can happen. She spoke in Spanish, and I could tell she was scared and overwhelmed.
